Once upon a time, we were having a hard week. Sunday rolled around, and things were either going to spiral out of control or we were just going to man up and handle it.
So we got in the car and drove to Alabama. Because we could and that’s what made sense to us at the moment.
And ya know what?
Best. Decision. EVER! Just above doing a double feature of Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road. Go see both. Seriously. Do it!
So, we got lost on our way to no where in particular, screamed for joy when we finally found a Waffle House. You would have thought the world was coming to an end and somebody was offering us salvation the way we both reacted. It was hilarious and so yummy. Fueled, we sojourned on and rolled into the college town of Auburn. Being as it was Memorial Day weekend AND school was out, things were extremely vacant.
You know when you’re a serious geek when you go to a town just to wander a campus. This has been a consistent avenue of entertainment in our marriage and it has yet to disappoint. We wandered while Mr. F looked up Wikipedia articles about the school, giving me the history. (It was used as a Confederate training facility, FYI.)
On the drive home, we sang as loud as we could to music and tried to keep one another awake amid the lure of an afternoon nap. When we walked in the door, the stress of the week had faded in the bliss of an impromptu road trip. All we could think of was how we needed to run away more often.
